Dimitrios J. Apostolopoulos. Professor of Nuclear Medicine, University of Patras, Medical Scool, Head of the Dept. of Nuclear Medicine & PET/CT, University General Hospital of Patras, Greece.
Dimitrios Apostolopoulos was born in Patras, Greece, in 1960. He received his MD in 1984 from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and his PhD from the same University in 1989. He completed his specialization in Nuclear Medicine at the “Aretaieion” Hospital, Athens.
He was trained in Nuclear Cardiology at the University Hospital “Haut-Leveque”, Bordeaux, France and in PET/CT at the Medical PET unit of the German Cancer Research Centre (Deutsches Krebsforschung Zentrum, DKFZ), Heidelberg, Germany.
From 1990 until 2002 he was positioned at the department of Nuclear Medicine in the University General Hospital of Patras as a consultant. In 2002 he was elected assistant professor, in 2011 associate professor and in 2015 professor of Nuclear Medicine of the Medical School University of Patras.
From 2015 until today he is head of the department of Nuclear Medicine of the University General Hospital of Patras. This department has 4 units: a) in vitro (radioimmunoassays), b)classical Nuclear Medicine imaging unit, equipped with 2 SPECT/CT systems, c) PET/CT unit and d) therapy unit. He has co-authored more than 50 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed medical journals and more than 90 oral/poster presentations in European or International Congresses. His publications have 627 citations (h-index=14). He has co-edited the book “Introduction to Nuclear Medicine” for the students of the University of Patras and recently the book “Nuclear Medicine” by “Neon publications”, 2021. He has also authored chapters in 5 other medical books. He was a co-investigator in 5 grants. He has given approximately 60 lectures in Medical Congresses and CME sessions of various Medical Associations. He is a reviewer in five Medline-indexed medical journals. He has supervised 6 PhD dissertations.
His research work is mainly on Nuclear Cardiology, parathyroid imaging and clinical applications of SPECT/CT. Currently, his research interest is focused on medical applications of Artificial Intelligence.
